About Sam

Sam L. Brokken is a former Ass. Professor and Head of Research in Health Sciences at two Belgian Universities of Applied Sciences, an expert in Health and Wellbeing.
In the field of biomedical sciences, he is recognised for his provocative insights.
He is not afraid to challenge and critique established beliefs in the field and to substantiate his reasonings with scientific peer-reviewed evidence.

After conducting nearly two decades of research on the subject, he concluded that the majority of novel scientific discoveries require up to twenty years before they are disseminated to healthcare professionals.

Sam received his first class degree in Physiotherapy in the 1990s. He pursued specific Postgraduate Degrees in Sports Physiotherapy and Exercise Science, Manipulative Therapies (Osteopathy), and Manual Therapy in Belgium and The Netherlands. He gained extensive experience in clinical reasoning, holistic science, and patient-centered care during his career as a clinician. Widely regarded as the go-to professional for ‘second opinions’ in musculo-skeletal diseases.

In his private practice, however, he found patients to rely primarily on passive therapies. Confronted with his patients’ dependency on the healthcare system, he conducted research in the areas of social determinants of health and behavioural psychology, with a particular focus on the external locus of control.

As a result, he embarked on a new route, studying at Robert Gordon University in the United Kingdom, where he finished top of his class (with Merit Award) with a Research degree in Public Health and Health Promotion (minor epidemiology).

Sam appeared in over 100 press, podcasts & TV-interviews around the globe and is known for his humorous and amusing lectures on lifestyle and wellbeing related themes. His contribution to the ‘Headwind’ documentaries garnered over 6 million views covering alternative voices during the pandemic alongside Dr. Robert Malone, Prof. Lieven Annemans, Prof. Mattias Desmet, and others. He earned the ‘Motivational-Award’ from the Dutch talk show “De Nieuwe Wereld” in 2021 for his “unwavering pursuit of independent scientific substantiation in the biomedical field”.

Furthermore, Sam is a respected opinion maker, author, and founder of Humani-Well. Humani-Well is an online platform in which scholars from around the globe challenge, reflect and question set beliefs on health and societal topics.
